Fayetteville Ends Liverpool’s Season in Semifinal: Advance to Finals

The undefeated Fayetteville-Manlius Hornets faced off against Liverpool May 24th, a game that could have easily ended the teams undefeated season.  It was a competitive game for both teams fighting in the Section III Class ‘A’  semifinal game to move on to the championship final.  The Hornets survived the fight in the last minutes of the fourth quarter with a final of 10-9.

Fayetteville has completed the regular season undefeated, and were confident that they could defeat the Warriors (11-6) before they had begun the game.  FM held the lead for three quarters, leading 9-3 in the final period.  The Hornets squad was looking forward to their Championship game until it unexpectedly started to slip out of their control.  The scoreboard displayed 10-5 with 2:55 left on the clock and the Liverpool Warriors struck back with four quick goals with 23.8 seconds on the clock.  The Hornets were stunned now, holding their breaths for the last seconds on the clock leading 10-9.  Finally, the siren sounded and team could celebrate in relief after FM defender Jake Pulver snatched the ball in mid air from Liverpool to hold the ball from the team.

Fayetteville-Manlius will play against West Genesee on Tuesday, May 28th, for the Section III Class A Championship game.
